Samba Carneval

On the weekend there was a samba carneval in Lan Kwai Fong. We went there on Saturday night. Before going there we went to eat in a fancy Vietnamese restaurant in Harbour City. The restaurant looked very nice and had pretty good view over HK Island. I ordered a menu of beef in 7 different ways. The first 5 dishes were pretty good, but very small. The last two dishes, a rice soup with minced meat and a hot pot with bacon, were big enough but didn't taste like anything. The overall impression was not very good compared to the price, which was over 150$.

The samba carneval was, surprise surprise, very crowded. We missed the actual carneval by 10 minutes, so couldn't say whether the girls were pretty or not =( Otherwise there was nothing special, a lot of boutiques selling tourist crap and too expensive beer. We came back home early to be prepared for next morning's eco trip.

Eco Trip

To a Eco trip was arranged by Student Halls and we went there on Sunday. We took a boat to visit two small islands just a bit east of HK New Territories. It was supposed to get us know better of Hong Kong's environment, plants and animals. At least that's what I thought. The first of the islands was pretty nice. It was a totally deserted place with a short hiking trail. Not too much to see there though. Mostly rocks and sea...

The first island:

The second island had a small village with a buddhist temple and all. The village was very poor, and the island was full of trash everywhere. I didn't like it at all. It was pretty common camping place, and there were a few tents even during our visit. But obviously no one cared how dirty the place was, and they just dumbed their trash everywhere. It made me very angry, if people can carry the garbage there, how come they can't carry them back?!

The animals on Eco trip:

Didn't see too many animals and the islands were pretty bare, so the plants were nothing special either.  Anyway the trip was nice and calming a bit change for HK life, and it costed 70$, so it was ok.
