On Saturday morning 11.00 we (check the picture below) began our journey to other Chinese SAR (Special Administrative Region) Macau. Macau is a former colony of Portugal, and it becama SAR of China in 1999. Today Macau is best known of its Casinos, and thus it is often called as Las Vegas of China.

Macau is a pretty small peninsula and there lives about half a million people. You can see practically all tourist attractions in a day, at least if you hire a driver as we did. The driver costed 100HK$/person, and he drove us for about 5 hours and also guided us in some of the places.  The driver only spoke Putonghua,  but luckily we had Calista with us, because without her we wouldn't have managed to get that good a bargain =)

Here is a picture of the whole gang before the remains of St. Paul cathedral:

So we drove round the Macau for 5 hours and checked the tourist attractions. Nothing really speacial about them. Perhaps the best known attraction is the Macau Tower, which is 338 meters high attraction/extreme entertainment center. You can e.g. do a skyjump from 223 meters (which Janne did), and on December benji jump from the same height. Here's the tower:

After the city tour, we went to the Macau Tower to see the view, and Janne actually did the sky jump  there also (costed 588HK$:s, a bit too much for me...). After that we went to see some fireworks. There is some kind of a fireworks competition going on every Saturday night near the Tower this time of year. This time it was Portugal's and Australia's turn to show off. The firework were nice =) Something you never see in Finland... The video doesn't do right for the real thing, but if you want to get a glimbse of what it looked like, check the video from here.

After the fireworks we went to the casinos of course =) And to the newest and probably the finest of them all Wynn. Got a very nice membership card, because I was a high roller. Spended like 100HK$ for slot machines in the whole night =)

After Wynn we were ready to go home. It was about 2 o'clock in the morning, and we thought that we could take 3 o'clock ferry or so. Hint: if you go to Macau on weekend, reserve your return tickets beforehand. We could get tickets only to 7.00 ferry, and had to wait for 4 hours... Esa, Calista and I went to see some other casinos, but the rest of the gang was already so tired that they waited in the docks...

After all we managed to get back to HK island and at about 9.30 in the morning we were back at students hall. A bit tired, but one very nice experience richer =) And AJ, actually about 1000$:s richer, because he won it from a slot machine =) So not too much to tell about Sunday, since it went to recovering...

How to get there:
We took a TurboJet ferry to Macau from Sheung Wan piers near Central. It costed about 150$/way, and it takes ~45 minutes to get there. You don't even need a visa, at least if you are from Europe or so. Remember to book return tickets beforehand if you travel during weekend!
